THOUGHTS FROM THE INSIDE

My prayers are for the families and friends of the students and others who were killed or wounded at Virginia Tech University this morning. It is tragic when our kids have to become terrified on their own college campuses. My heart goes out to all of them.

But…

I spent much of this morning watching both Fox News and CNN as they covered the events on the VTU campus in southwestern Virginia. Each new bit of news increased the shock and horror. One wonders what goes on in the head of a person who would do such a thing. I was very sobered.

But…

Then one of the networks flashed to a scene in the House of Representatives as Nancy Pelosi made weighty comments about the campus shootings and then called the House members to stand for a moment of silence. (Of course, one also wonders what good a “moment of silence” will do. Since we’re not allowed to ask for a “moment of prayer” I guess that’s all we have left…silence!) I really don’t mind a moment of silence,

But…

Why doesn’t Nancy Pelosi just put an end to all of this senseless violence, hatred, and killing? Why doesn’t she call on her friends in Syria to come and show us all the better way? Why doesn’t she bring them over here so they can show us the way to peace?

After all, Madame Speaker…

“The road to Damascus is the road to peace!”

Another horrible, senseless event.

I now wait uncomfortably to find out whether someone on campus was in a romance gone awry, or did an employee fail to get a raise, or did some gang of geeks get upset when a fellow student looked at them cross-eyed...

In the meantime, I am up to page 20 in "Culture Warrior" by Bill O'Reilly, so look out Nancy Pelosi!

The title of my post, Thoughts from the Inside, means, Thoughts from Inside the Democratic Party. Now that I have been abandoned by my party I am going to reveal everything I know about its lurid secrets. Nancy Pelosi gets to go first!

Gun control. Hmmmm...I have always been in favor of gun control except for legitimate hunting weapons.

Inside the Democratic Party? It's another thing they've changed on. They want Dick Cheney to have any kind of gun he can lay his hands on!

A-hem..I would like to speak for us city dwellers who are forced to live in unsafe-er neighborhoods...we have guns. Of course we all tremble to use them. None of us pre-meditates anything except the occasional "say someone breaks in and is coming up the stairs" rehearsal.
Hey! I've got an idea! Let's just make something that looks and cocks like a Glock without the bullets! (Oh yah. That's right. Eventually the bad guys will catch on and then they won't stop halfway up the steps when they hear the gun being cocked!)... (because they don't stop at anything but fear of violence 'in kind' and/or abject humiliation.)
Hmmm. That gives me another idea.
Maybe we should install cameras in all the houses and when they see a bad guy at night walking up the family stairs SHA-ZANG! Robotic hands remove their pants and the image of the disrobed is simultaniously projected onto all of the town's signs and billboards!!Oh wait a minute...that would violate Indecent Exposure laws.

Or hey! How about this?? We bring back the stocks! (So ...Hmm. That would mean people would have to gather in a central place. "COME SEE THE 'STOCKS at STARBUCKS' on April 17th! FREE COFFEE!"
Nah. Compared to CSI and 'spatula man'the stocks will seem a bit juvenile.
I say maybe people should be able to protect themselves until we get a better solution.
(or...I know...how 'bout cops in every home overnight! They can be the nightwatchmen for private citiens! We'll call them "Big Buddies"...)
